FINE ARTS ACADEMY STUDENTS (Auditioned with BAND as your major)~
To REMAIN in the program each year, students must:

Pass the course with a B or higher.

Audition for Georgia Music Educators Association all-state band or orchestra on primary instrument or participate for a full season with the marching patriots (all skill levels accepted. Must attend weekly practices and participate in region game halftime shows. You may also be a band member without being in a band class if schedule conflicts arise.) Students displaying high level of skill will be considered top priority and placed in advanced band/orchestra if schedule permits.

According to national and state standards, middle school advanced band does equate to high school advanced band/orchestra. Most 9th graders will be assigned to the beginning level courses.
BAND STUDENTS (Supply List!)
Beginning Band
(Concert Band)
Course Description: Students in Beginning Band will learn the basics of how to play woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments as well as learning the basics of reading music and playing alone and within an instrumental ensemble. (This class requires attendance at after-school rehearsals and performances. It also requires the payment of band dues to cover students' Concert attire.)
Course Materials: Instrument and required accessories (mouthpiece, reed, ligature, drumsticks/mallets, music binder, clear sheet protectors.
Intermediate Band
(Symphonic Band)
Course Description: Students in Intermediate Band will expound upon the fundamentals learned in beginning band in playing woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments as well as learning more advanced techniques for reading music, playing alone, and playing within an instrumental ensemble. These students will perform several different styles of challenging musical literature. (This class requires attendance at after-school rehearsals and performances. It also requires the payment of band dues to cover students' Concert attire.)
Course Materials: Instrument and applicable accessories (mouthpiece, reed, ligature, drumsticks/mallets, valve oil, slide grease, cork grease, etc.), music binder, clear sheet protectors.
*Note that students without the proper concert attire will not take the stage and their grade will be affected due to absence.
Beginning Instrumental Ensemble
(Percussion Ensemble)
Course Description: Students in the Beginning Instrumental Ensemble class will learn strictly about percussion instruments (all drums, cymbals, xylophone, marimba, tambourine, etc.). This class will focus on making well-rounded percussionists out of our students and helping them to become proficient in the various techniques used in playing all of the instruments in the percussion family. Students will also learn how to read music, play alone, and play within a musical ensemble.
Course Materials: Applicable accessories for percussion instruments (snare drumsticks, hard rubber mallets, soft yarn mallets, practice pad), music binder, clear sheet protectors. This class requires the payment of dues ot cover students' Concert attire. Students who are in Beginning Band or Intermediate Band and have already paid for their Concert attire WILL NOT have to pay twice.
